Order Picking Accuracy

The share of order lines picked without error.

Definition

The share of order lines picked without error.

Why it matters

Picking errors become customer complaints, returns, credits and lost trust, and each one costs many times the pick.

Formula

Picking Accuracy = (Lines Picked - Lines With Errors) / Lines Picked x 100

Example

49,700 correct of 50,000 lines = 99.4%.

How to interpret it

Track errors by cause: wrong item, wrong quantity, wrong location. The mix tells you whether it is slotting, process or training.

How to improve it

Use scan verification, separate lookalike SKUs in slotting, and give feedback to individuals with coaching rather than blame.

Common mistakes

Measuring only errors reported by customers, which understates internal error rates.
